The golden-mantled tree kangaroo is just one of dozens of species discovered in late 2005 by a team of Indonesian, Australian, and U.S. scientists on the island of New Guinea.

The animal is the rarest arboreal, jungle-dwelling kangaroo in the world, the researchers say. This was the first time the mammal was found in Indonesia, making it only the second site in the world where the species is known to exist.

The kangaroo was discovered on an expedition in the Foja Mountains of Indonesia.

Tree kangaroos are relatives of the kangaroos and wallabies that we all know and have seen.

However they have adapted themselves to a life in the trees with exceptionally long tails and strong forelimbs. They can also get around by moving both their feet at the same time, whereas the kangaroos that live on the ground have to move both rear feet at the same time.

The Golden-mantled Tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus pulcherrimus), is possibly the rarest tree kangeroo that is native and endemic to New Guinea.

It has chestnut brown short coat with a pale belly, and yellowish neck, cheeks and feet. A double golden stripe runs down its back. The tail is long and has pale rings.

You would have to be very lucky to see one for yourself in the wild.Reports suggests that it has become extinct over as much as 95% of its original range in the past 60 years.

Love The Roar….

Current Status Of Tigers In India

The National animal of India has been facing the danger of extinction from a considerable amount of time now.Efforts have been and are being taken to help improve the conditions of tigers in India by various projects undertaken by government and NGO’s keeping the issue alive in the heart of the masses.Despite this tiger poaching for its skin and body parts hasn’t stopped.

India holds over half the world’s tiger population. According to the latest tiger census report released in March, 2011 by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the current tiger population estimated is 1,706 ( ranging between a minimum of 1,571 to a maximum of 1,875). The results include figures from 17 Indian states with a tiger population.

In 2008 the tiger population figure stood at 1,411. The report had classified the tiger occupied forests in India into 6 landscape complexes; namely – Shivalik-Gangetic Plains, Central Indian Landscape Complex Eastern Ghats, Western Ghats, North-Eastern Hills and Bhramaputra Plains, and Sunderbans.

Within the Shivalik-Gangetic plain landscape, it was reported that the tiger occupies 5080 km2 of forested habitats with an estimated population size of 297 (259 to 335) in six separate populations. In the Central Indian Landscape, tiger presence was then reported from 47,122 km2 (11.6 % of forests) with an estimated tiger population of 451 (347 to 564) distributed in 17 populations. The Eastern Ghat landscape complex had about 15,000 km2 of potential tiger habitat. Tigers occupied 7,772 km2 of forested habitats with an estimated population size of 53 (49 to 57). Tigers occupied 21,435 km2 of forests within……. [[....continue reading...]]

Beyond Human-Extending Boundaries

When we had started the group it all seemed very easy.We will conduct activities, make changes in the society and will build a place worth living peacefully for humans as well as animals.

One year down the line, things don’t seem that easy. The whole journey of one long year has made us more practical and most importantly, more determined.

In all the activities and presentation we have undertaken up till now,the only obstacle in the path of the change we intend to bring about has been and probably, will always be,“The way People Think”,their mentality.

No one is happy with the way things are going right now,but the laid back kind of attitude and the mental blockage in minds of people which always tells them that,“Nothing is going to change.”

Taking about India, leaving aside a few exceptions, every individual right from the time of birth is taught to flow in the direction of the river stream and not to do anything against it.Even while he choose a profession for his life ,he is told do what every one prefers to do.

Every individual is told and is made to believe,”Nothings going to change in India,It will always be the way it has been, flowing in the dirty stream of corruption and insecurity in almost every field, with no noble professions left.”

The real problem is not corruption, the real problem is the way we thought, are thinking and probably keep on thinking if nothing happens shortly. The real problem is in our minds.

No one is thinking beyond their carrier, beyond their self centered and selfish relationships,no one is thinking of stepping up and actually doing a contribution.

Many of my colleagues and friends complain to me that even though we want to change things ,How do we?We don’t have any platform which could guide us,which could actually let us contribute.

Well If you did read this article, the question has been answered,”Beyond Human”. We will be undertaking a huge range of activities which would affect directly or indirectly, the society socially and politically towards its betterment.

You wanted a platform we provided you with one,now its up to choose, whether to flow with the dirty stream of corruption or against it.

Lastly would like every one to remember one thing always,“Change makers are not found, they are made within you.”

Love The Roar…..
